Call Summary Roswell Arts Fund and the City of Roswell, Georgia invites artists to submit proposals of existing and new outdoor art works for consideration for ArtAround Roswell 2022, a Sculpture Tour; a temporary, monumental sculptural art installation to be installed at various outdoor sites in the City of Roswell, Georgia. Proposals selected through this call will be considered for exhibition during an 11-month tour from May 2022 - April 2023. ArtAround Roswell 2022 showcases diverse and varied sculptural works, bringing joy, and improving quality of life to Roswell’s public spaces. This year, the theme for consideration for exhibition is about TRADITION. The theme is to evoke what made us who we are and what we celebrate as a community. Artists are encouraged to tap into cultural, familial, artistic, and social traditions in the creation artistic works. Some example questions to consider: • What are some favorite traditions of Roswell? • What has made art great? • What do we look forward to being and doing in 2022? • What are our roots? • What makes us who we are? • What can we leave behind? • What should we carry forward? Sculptures will be selected and installed throughout the city, including within existing parks and historical downtown Roswell. Sites may be publicly or privately owned. Existing sites and sculptures can be viewed at www.roswellartsfund.org. This invitation is extended to all qualified artists with no entry fee. Roswell Arts Fund seeks to have a diverse and inclusive selection pool that represents the diversity and vibrancy of the Roswell communities. Artwork Location Description • Sites are located throughout the city of Roswell. Some sites do have cement pads, though these are not guaranteed or required. These existing pads are 4’x4’x6” in size. Eligibility Artist and Artwork Eligibility: • This call is open to all artists and artist teams. Applicants must be 18 or older. • Artwork must be an original, one-of-a-kind artwork. • Please specify special equipment and installation requirements. 4’x4’ cement pads are available for anchoring. • Artwork must be fabricated and finished in a manner that presents no danger to the public. This includes hazardous chemicals or treatments, surfaces that are rough or sharp, or any loose components susceptible to failure. The works must be able to be “maintenance free” for the duration of the exhibition. • All exhibition space is outdoors and accessible to the public. Artwork should be appropriate for all ages. • The selected artist(s) will be required to carry general liability insurance for the installation and for the length of the exhibition. Proof of insurance is required at the time of contracting. |

Selection Information | ||||||||||||
Selection Process This panel is comprised of diverse Roswell stakeholders including business, civic and community leaders as well as art professionals. The Public Art Selection Panel will seek to choose a well-balanced and diverse exhibition of sculptures with a variety of styles, types, and sizes. Finalists and up to three alternates will be selected. After the submission deadline members of the Roswell Arts Fund will prescreen the applications for the Selection Panel to ensure completeness and eligibility to identify a list of qualified candidates with appropriate experience for this project. The Public Art Selection Panel reserves the right to solicit additional submissions publicly or directly to individual artists should the panel decide by majority that there are insufficient submissions for consideration. |

Selection Criteria CONCEPT • Is the sculpture original? • How does the work reflect the theme of tradition? ARTISTIC MERIT • Does the project demonstrate high artistic merit? • Is it artistically engaging and stimulating? Will it be appreciated by the public? • Do the other examples of work submitted support the artistic merit/quality/fabrication of the proposed sculpture? FEASIBILITY • Does the artist have the experience to execute the proposal? • Would the piece negatively impact the public’s health & safety in any way? (e.g. no sharp edges or elements which might present a possible danger to the public) • Will the structural and artistic integrity be maintained for the duration of the exhibition or the intended duration of the proposal? |
