Call Summary
Experienced artists and artist teams are invited to apply for Sculpture Wake Forest, a juried outdoor sculpture exhibition that will be in publicly accessible outdoor spaces in Wake Forest, North Carolina, including the town hall plaza, the Renaissance Centre and selected Wake Forest parks. This invitation is extended to all artists regardless of their state of residence and there is no entry fee. Interactive work, pieces of or about the environment, and artistic seating elements are encouraged. In addition to finished pieces, proposed work will also be considered.
 
Budget Description
Selected artists will receive a total honorarium of $2,000 per selected artwork that is intended to cover all expenses, including installation, travel and liability insurance. This honorarium will be paid in two installments: $1,000 after the work is successfully installed and $1,000 after the work has been successfully removed.
 
Project Description
Works submitted must be of a scale and material suitable for extended public outdoor display and constructed so that they can be securely anchored to a concrete pad provided by the site or stakes or footers devised by the artist.
 
Artwork Goals
The Town of Wake Forest Public Art Commission develops and implements public art programs to increase public access to the arts, provides opportunities for artists to display their work, and promotes public understanding and awareness of the arts. The Commission was established in 2010. It consists of 9 community member-volunteers appointed by the Town Board of Commissioners. The Town’s Percent for Art Program, established by a 2010 Ordinance, allocates one percent of selected capital improvement projects for the creation and maintenance of works of public art.

Eligibility
Open to all artists creating three-dimensional artwork of a scale and material suitable for outdoor display. Participating artists must carry liability insurance.
 
Application Requirements
Resume: 2 page(s) maximum
Work examples: 1 - 3
Artist Statement: 200 word maximum
Letter of Interest: 500 word maximum
 
Artists are allowed to apply in teams.
Artists applying as a team must split the allotted number of work examples between themselves.
 
Selection Information
Selection Process
An Artist Selection Committee comprising arts professionals, representatives of the Town of Wake Forest and Public Art Commission, and of the participating venues will review all complete applications to select and site artworks for the exhibition. Selections are based on artistic excellence and the goal of exhibiting a variety of styles and media in appropriate sites.
 
Selection Criteria
Artists and artist teams may upload application materials as digital files or send through the postal mail a CD or DVD containing digital application materials to the Public Art Commission (addresses provided below). No hard copy portfolios will be considered or returned. A complete application will include the following files:

Images of up to Three (3) Proposed and/or Completed Artworks
A maximum of three artworks and/or proposals may be submitted for consideration. Each artwork may be represented by up to three digital images showing different views of the finished piece or model, and/or drawings of the concept. A total of nine images may be submitted. Each image must be a PC- compatible JPEG file at 72 pixels per inch, as close to but no larger than either of the following dimensions: 900 pixels wide by 650 pixels tall. Each JPEG file must be named in the following format – “lastname_title_view#.jpg” – where the artist’s last name is followed by underscore, title of artwork, underscore, view number (1, 2 or 3), file extension. Please do not present your work as a montage of images (i.e., in a PowerPoint file); each image must be a separate JPEG file.

Annotated Image List
A text file (.doc or .docx) identifying JPEG images with the title of artwork depicted; the media and dimensions of the artwork; the artwork’s sale price or proposed insurance value if the work is not for sale; and the artwork’s installation method and requirements. Please label each dimension and round to the nearest foot (e.g., 8’ tall by 4’ wide by 3’ deep). For installation information, please identify the installation procedure and anchoring mechanism(s). If a concrete pad is required, please provide minimum dimensions. If manual labor other than the artist’s and/or installer’s is required, please list the number of helpers needed. Please note if use of a backhoe is requested. Other equipment needs must be provided by the artist or the artist’s installer.
